One point decides the eighth Advertising Industry Cup

Only one point separated first and second place in the tightest finish The DDS Advertising Industry Cup has seen in years! Teams from across the media industry gathered on Wednesday 16 July to compete for the much sought-after DDS trophy.

The Mediacom team was pipped to the title by the narrowest of margins by BLM / Acumen. Scoring was high throughout the day as the sun shone down on the beautiful Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Course in Richmond, Surrey. There was barely a breath of wind, and the superbly manicured greens gave the 'great and the good' the confidence to attack the course.

'We were quietly confident as that score would have been enough to win in previous years,' said a slightly deflated Graeme Canter of Mediacom after his team's score was posted -- the general consensus was it'd take something special to beat it. And something special was exactly what followed: first, Nick Brown and Gavin Jeeves of BLM posted very competitive totals, then Peter and Paul, the Richards brothers from Acumen, posted similarly high scores themselves. Scorecards were checked and re-checked and finally the Acumen / BLM players were declared champions by a single point. 'Over the moon!' said Paul, 'we look forward to our defence next year.

Sarah Lawson Johnston, DDS director of Client Service, presented the team with the Advertising Industry Cup: 'It was a fantastic day, and once again it took an excellent score to secure the trophy and the top prizes. We're very pleased that everyone had a great time and that the weather was kind to us. The bar has been set very high for 2009!'
